Laura Ecker has achieved great success in working with chronically disorganized clients, thanks to her key qualities of patience and kindness. She is a living example that patience is something that can be learned and developed over time. Although her earlier work experiences did not require deep patience, becoming a mother at the age of 41 and starting and starting a second career as a professional organizer helped her gain the patience and experience she needed to excel in her field.
Laura enlisted in the Air Force just a few months before turning 21 and served for nine years in the Air Force and Air National Guard. After leaving the military, she worked as a professional temp and was often assigned to run the reception desk or front office for Fortune 500 companies, be it for a day or a month. She was skilled in handling complex switchboards with 500 lines (if you can relate to this term, you might be old), and she demonstrated her problem-solving ability during a distribution strike at the Cincinnati Enquirer where she learned to outsmart the phone and computer systems to get the best results for the subscribers. Throughout her career, solving problems has been her life's theme.
Laura was able to pursue her acting and film production interests through professional temporary work. While she was a good actress, her heart and mind were not fully focused on performing due to her involvement with producing films and project management. As a result, she often found herself distracted from learning her lines.
Laura's career as a home organizer began when she assisted an elderly friend in downsizing and preparing to move to an independent living community. Initially, she was motivated by the satisfaction of creating more visually appealing and organized spaces. However, she eventually realized that simply using pretty containers and label makers was not fulfilling enough. It was only after working with a few extremely cluttered and chronically disorganized clients that she discovered her true calling.
Today Laura is the only Indianapolis professional organizer with a Level 2 Hoarding Specialist Certificate through the Institute for Challenging Disorganization. She has also earned a Level 1 Certification in Organizing for Clients with ADHD as well as NAPO Specialist badges in Life Transitions, Residential Organizing, Household Management, Team Productivity and Workplace Productivity.
Laura is a self-described “education geek." She loves learning, reading, being a mom and has a unique hobby of untying knots.
